Calgary North supports a number of charities in the city. Our main charity is Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Calgary and Area. This is the main charity for all of the Progress Clubs of Calgary. The predecessor of BBBS was the Uncles and Aunts at Large programs in Calgary, which were started by the Progress Clubs in the city. The Progress Clubs were the main fundraisers for the programs and are still responsible for over 50% of the BSBB program today. Our Helping Hands program at Christmas benefits the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre and the Salvation Army Family Services. Nationally, the Canadian Progress Clubs support the Special Olympics through support provided by the CPC Charitable Foundation. The Charitable Foundation has grown to over $1,000,000.00 through the efforts of Progress Members across Canada. The unique aspect of Progress is that each club is able to support causes that they have an interest in or feel worthy of their support. In the past, Calgary North has supplied funds and assistance to other organizations such as the Calgary’s Emergency Women’s Shelter, the Mustard Seed Street Ministry, and the Interfaith Food Bank.
